October 2011

Dear Parents,

So far we are off to a wonderful start. Everyone seems to be adjusting to the classroom and all of their new friends. We are looking forward to a new and exciting school year. Every month I will be sending home a newsletter. All of our classroom newsletters will be on blue paper. Please keep these handy for upcoming events during that month.

If your child has been coming home with crayon rubbed letters, please take a few minutes every day to review the letter and the sound at home. This also includes word readers. They are all so excited to move on to the next shelf, so please work with them, it really helps both them, and us.

All of the children were tested on their numbers, shapes, colors, and sounds during the first weeks of school. If your child came home with a number sheet, please practice recognizing numbers and counting with your child. Children that only attend 3 days a week tend to forget and it would be a great way to help them remember. Try to make it fun and if they become uninterested, put it away and try going back to it later.

All of the children learn at their own pace in EVERY area of the classroom, so please Do Not compare your child with another. They are all so bright and wonderful. We are so proud of them and the progress they are making.

This month in science, we will be going over the parts of a tree as a group, along with leaves and why the colors change. Please encourage your child to talk about this at home.

Thank you to the Pellegrino family, and Transportation and Services Inc. for bringing in the Semi truck last month for the kids to see. Also, thank you to Scott Sly, Mrs. Millie & family, and Mrs. Tami & her sons, for all of their hard work on our school’s floors and bathrooms.

Reminders!

  • All students must be signed in and out daily.
  • Class time begins at 8:45a.m for the morning session, and 12:45p.m for the afternoon. Please have your child on time for class. If your child is tardy and their group has already left for their special class (art, sign language, music, discovery or gym), they will not be allowed to attend their special that day. Tardiness is not only disruptive to the class, but also your child misses out on valuable class time, lessons and circle. Also, please take your child to the bathroom before class starts.
  • If your child is going to be tardy but here for lunch, please call the office and let them know.
  • If someone new is picking up your child, his or her name must be on your child’s emergency card. They also must have a photo ID on them when signing in or out. Please understand this is for the safety of your child.
  • Please wait for your child at the classroom door during drop-off and pick-up times. Please do not take them out of line, or from the playground area. We do a head count before and after leaving the classroom, and it makes it a lot easier if they are all released at the same time and from the same place. This again, is a safety measure.
  • All paperwork (Allergy list, Emergency cards) must be turned in as soon as possible to the office.
  • If your child is going to be absent for any reason, please contact the office at (734) 675-8280 and let us know the reason for their absence. We are required to report any outbreaks of illnesses in the school.
  • Please keep your child home if they are ill. This will help prevent the spread of illness between the children, as well as the staff.
  • Please make sure all coats, sweaters, and lunchboxes are clearly labeled with your child’s first and last name, or initials.
  • Snack sign-up sheets are posted on the shelf outside of the classroom. This is NOT required, but if you could help out, that would be greatly appreciated. Please, no peanut product.
  • In case of accidents, we ask that you bring a complete change of clothes (pants, shirt, socks and underwear) in a Ziploc bag. If you have not done so already, please bring these in a.s.a.p.
  • If your child attends school on Fridays, please make sure they have proper clothing and gym shoes.
  • Please Do Not park in the Doctor’s parking lot. Please park in our lot or the church lot.
  • Occasionally the parking lot is blocked off for Recess. Please park in the church parking lot when the barriers are up.
  • Please dress for the weather. Lunch children will go outside for recess, weather permitting.
  • On party days and pizza days, volunteers are welcome to come in and assist, but please no siblings.

Also, your child may only be released from their classroom. If we are outside or in another part of the building, please wait outside our classroom. This is for the safety of your child.

We have a snack sign-up calendar posted outside of the classroom. Feel free to sign up for a nutritional snack whenever you can, once a month works out best. No peanut products please.

In case of spills, or other accidents, we ask that you please bring in a complete outfit in a plastic one-gallon ziploc bag, labeled with your child’s name on it. (Please include socks & underpants). This will be kept in the school restrooms. Please make sure your child’s initials are on all articles of clothing, (along with coats, sweaters, etc.).

When a person unfamiliar to us is picking up your child from school, we will ask to see ID, and make sure their name is on the emergency card. Please understand this is for the safety of your child.

A newsletter will be sent home on a monthly basis. All of our classroom newsletters will be printed on blue paper.

If your child is going to be absent for any reason, please give us a call at (734) 675-8280, and let us know the reason for the absence.

Last but not least, please enter and exit the school from Manning Drive. Do not cut through the doctor’s office parking lot, or park in their spaces during drop off and pickup times. The doctors’ office lot is Private Property. Please pass along this information to anyone else who will pick up or drop off your child. This is to ensure the safety of everyone. Occasionally, our parking lot is blocked off for the children’s recess. If this is the case, please do not park by the barriers/gates, instead please park in the church parking lot.

April 2011

Parents, we have enjoyed visiting Italy and Ireland, but out “Tour of Europe” ends this week. I hope all of you have enjoyed learning what your child is learning in the classroom. This month, we’re off to visit Asia! (Although all children are learning about the continents, only the Kindergarten children will be making a “Map of the World”. These will be coming home soon). Also, this month will be “Science Month”. A little before and after Spring break, we will be discussing the parts of a flower, living vs. nonliving, and be conducting science experiments. The children are coming along so well, Miss Katie and I are so proud of them! J

We are now up to 20 readers! Reading is so important, that is why we cannot stress enough the importance of reading at home every day. As for our journal children, we hope that you enjoy reading their journals as much as we do. We will continue these through April but do something a little different for the month of May. As for the homework packets and spelling tests, we will continue these through the months of April and May.

Thank you to the Parent’s Guild, Lisa Michetti, and Jennifer Gamet, for the wonderful job they did making French toast sticks, sausage, and fruit bowls for our kids on “Read Across America Day”. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!!

Ms. Mary & Miss Katie

November 2010

Parents,

Goodbye October, Hello November! What a great month we had. The children are all progressing so quickly and we are so proud. The younger ones are catching on to their letters, sounds, numbers and word reading, while the older ones are flying through their books and math lessons.

We hope that you enjoyed their October journals as much as we did. Their penmanship is improving daily, and we will be working on more creative drawings to show a little bit of their own unique personalities. The older children will continue the monthly journals throughout the year.

Hopefully the children have been telling you a little about a tree, what it needs to live, parts of the tree, and the four seasons. We have also been working on ‘animals & their homes’, and ‘living & non-living things’.  For the last week or so, we have been talking about the bones in our body and what muscles do. The 4th – 6th graders visited our classroom one day last week to explain the different organs and their functions. Thank you to Mrs. Kim and her class for the wonderful presentation!

Not only do we do a lot of hard work and learning in class, we also have a lot of fun. Our Halloween party was a huge success, and the children had a great time. Thank you to everyone who donated food, drinks and party supplies.

Our food delivery to the food bank was also a great success. Carts of much needed food and other items were donated October 20th. Thank you for donating!

Did you love the creative little pumpkins sent home in mid-October? Thanks again this year to the Parents Guild for setting up our pumpkin patch, along with Mrs. Heather, our Art teacher, for the ideas and supplies. Also to Mr. Zanetti & Mr. Brazier for bringing the pumpkins up to CMC.

We’d like to send out some special thank you’s to a few certain people in the last month. Thank you to everyone who sold Macy’s coupons, and who volunteered to sell them (Kristen Zanetti, Natalie Knaggs, Chey Little, Celia Bencher, Sarah Martin, Kelly Lloyd, and friends of the Zanetti’s, Arianna & Briana, and Carol Zanetti).

We would also like to thank our classroom parents, who have been amazing this year, especially with signing up to bring in snacks for the children. We greatly appreciate it!

Newsletter – October 2010

All of the children learn at their own in EVERY area of the classroom, so please Do Not compare your child with another. They are all so bright and wonderful. We are so proud of them and the progress they are making.

This month in science, we will be going over the parts of a tree as a group, along with leaves and why the colors change. Please encourage your child to talk about this at home.

On Going Fundraisers

  • Meijer Community Rewards program.
  • Scrip! Scrip can be purchased in the office. Please see Mrs. Tracy.
  • Collecting Box Tops, Tyson labels, and foil juice bags.

Reminders!

  • All students must be signed in and out daily.
  • Class time begins at 8:45a.m for the morning session, and 12:45p.m for the afternoon. Please try to have your child on time for class.

September 2010

Dear Parents,

We would like to welcome all of the new students joining us this school year, and a welcome back to our returning ones. We are looking forward to a wonderful new school year!

September Reminders

Our morning class session runs 8:45a.m – 11:45a.m. We will be greeting children at the door as early as 8:30a.m. If you are picking up your child from the morning session, they may be picked up as early as 11:30a.m, and no later than 11:45a.m.

The afternoon class session runs 12:45p.m – 3:45p.m. Drop off for the afternoon class is as early as 12:30p.m. Pick-up is no later than 3:45p.m. Also, your child may only be released from their classroom. If we are outside or in another part of the building, please wait outside our classroom. This is for the safety of your child.

We have a snack sign-up calendar posted outside of the classroom. Feel free to sign up for a nutritional snack whenever you can.

In case of spills, or other accidents, we ask that you please bring in a complete outfit in a plastic bag, labeled with your child’s name on it.

If your child is ever in need of medication at school, we will need a form filled out in the office; this also includes permission for the use of sun blocks and lotions.

Please make sure all of your child’s paperwork is turned into the office, (allergy list, emergency contact sheet, etc.), as soon as possible.
